The End is JUST the Beginning!!

by Terry Spear

From my wolves to you, I want to wish you the most joyous of holidays.

Aren't these lovely? No, they're not on my tree, but they'd definitely look right at home there!

In the beginning, there were "super-wolves" as in they were much larger than gray wolves, and were strictly carnivores, bringing down woolly mammoths and the like. Because of the differences in DNA, gray wolves were a different branch from these huge eastern Beringian wolves and size-wise were larger than coyotes, but smaller than the bigger dire wolves, who also became extinct.

Two branches of wolves existed, the one continuing to hunt meat on the hoof, and the other diversifying and eating a varied diet. The second branch continued to thrive while the other died out.

In the end, the smaller, more adaptable wolves found homes all over the world.

And somehow, a human who was bitten by a wolf, survived the bite and became one with the wolf. A shapeshifter who started the whole world of wolf shapeshifters. At least that's one theory. But you see even though that's how they might have ended up starting the world of wolf shifters, that's just the beginning! Of course there are other theories. That's the fun of genealogy research. Oral history passed down from generation to generation. One branch says it was this way, while another says no, it wasn't.

Don't you just love how even a sibling can have an entirely different version of the same story? Even my grandmother and her great aunt argued about their birthday and which year it was. They were twin sisters. :)

I'm at RomFan with a book giveaway today also, to add to the holidays! WOLF FEVER Annette gives this book

Now what can be better than receiving 5 Man Hunks!!!

I'm not even at the mid-point of my blog tour for WOLF FEVER, so lots of chances to win a free copy of the book--which is Sourcebooks gift to fans! And I'm nearly at THE END of The Wolf and the SEAL, but it's never the end. Heart of the Highland Wolf is coming in June and Dreaming of the Wolf's cover is being made up as we speak. Then it's time to begin working on The Highland Wolf in Paradise, Book 10. I've been asked a lot if the series is ending, and readers have been concerned. Which means, it's time to propose a couple of more books... or 3!

So never the end, only just the beginning!

Wishing everyone the joy of the season, from me (I write urban fantasy, remember--so this IS me...at least in my dreams!) and my wolves to you!

Fans were asking for an easy list they could print out of the wolf books, perfect for giving to the gift giver who doesn't know what you'd like for Christmas this year! Or for your own shopping convenience!

Davis Wolves ... who are playing for the high school 2A state football title on Saturday! I've stood beside a lot of wolves in Husbands 22 years of teaching at Davis ... but it never made me look like that lady ... guess it was the wrong kind of wolf! LOL. Good luck with the extended series! And happy holidays to you and all your wolves!

  12. Great post, Terry. Love the pictures of the wolves. Those ornaments are incredible. I finally got back to Borders and bought the book, actually made it out of the store with it this time :) NOW...if I can find the time to read. My worst complaint about being a writer. I don't have as much time to read.

  13. Okay, you get a cyber hug, Amelia!! Yes, of course, as soon as I take off all the cold weather gear that was pictured in the last posting when I was beneath a Scottish castle arch, just put me in a suave black gown, and that's me! Instant transformation. LOL ! Love it! And thanks on #10....I can't be more excited and thrilled! And truly, still in wonderment!

Ohmigosh, thanks so much, Anita, and I know just what you mean!!! I have to read, just have to. But I've been reading some print books, listening to audio, and last night, just finally gave myself permission to watch a movie! But I'm so with you! And thanks again!! Now, see, you would definitely be a heroine in my book who persevered! LOL :)

  14. Those ornaments are gorgeous, Terry! What I find really strange is that a lot of folklore is found in multiple, unrelated cultures. There might be twists, such as European dragons vs. Chinese dragons, but there is a lot of congruency between the various cultures. So have the stories been past down since we were out of Africa and just been adapted, or did the separate cultures come up with similar folklore separately? I don't know the answer. Just think it's interesting.

  15. I so agree, Olivia. If so many generations and varied cultures all over the world have similar stories, there must be some truth to the myths, don't you think? :)

Two-hundred and forty years ago, a family of MacNeills ended up in Prince Edward Island. From two of the three branches that continued the family line, a similar oral history was passed down, generation after generation after generation. The third branch--the daughter was just a baby, and from those I was able to contact, no one knew of the story. But for the two sons of the line, it was so similar, even though the MacNeills all scattered to different regions of Canada... so to my way of thinking, it has to be true. The keepers of the royal lineage in Scotland deny it...but Scotland Yard even spoke with my great grandmother and great great grandfather seeking the family Bible to verify the relationship...

So who knows what we might unearth some day that proves all these tales had some truth to them. :)

  16. Terry - you are the BEST! I love all the great wolf pics you found - and what a lovely picture of you and the wolf in the doorway! How did you make wolf ornaments? Super cool!

  17. LOL, Amanda! Thanks so much! Hmm, the wolf ornaments are beautiful and I so wish I could make them!!! Alas, other than writing wolf tales and making teddy bears--and wishing I had the time to create a wolf teddy bear...I'm afraid that's the extent of my creativity!
