Pampering Myself - What the???

by Amanda Forester

When we casababes decide on a monthly topic for our blogs I generally have a lot of ideas for my blog post. So I’m here at my computer, cat on my lap (I don’t even know how she got there) ready to type happily on our topic: Pampering Myself. Yep, here I am waiting for inspiration to hit.

Anytime now.

Still waiting…

Uh, yeah. I got nothing.

Apparently, me and self-indulgence are not the best of friends. Well, actually that’s not true at all. My all time favorite self-indulgence, chocolate (ohhh, sweet chocolate), has been my constant companion for the holidays. The holidays, of course, start with my birthday in October and continue nonstop past Christmas and straight through to Mardi Gras. Unfortunately, all this pampering has caused the pants in my closet to shrink. Darn pants.

So I have decided to try to “get healthy” (you know it’s a foreign concept when you have to put it in quotes) and start making “better decisions” (again with the quotes). So for the foreseeable future I have decided my form of self-indulgence is to start eating right and getting on an exercise program.

What could be more pampering than doing things which will ultimately make me feel great? With all this good eating and exercise I should (someday) better fit into my clothes, have more energy, and glow internally with the wondrous exuberance only rice cakes and butt-kicking workouts can bring. What could be more self-indulgent than that??

Have I convinced anyone?

Yeah… me neither. [sigh] Sweet chocolate…

  1. What timing! Just last week we were discussing savory recipes that involved chocolate on one of my groups.

Just remember cocoa powder is your friend. Go forth and sensibly indulge in healthy things like mole sauce and chili. There's also my favorite, French Onion soup. (GRIN)

    Good Luck!

  2. Too funny, Amanda! I thought the same when I was trying to write my post--pampering???? And that hunk who's offering the chocolate..hmmm

  3. It's a writer's malady because the closet is shrinking my clothing, too. Maybe it's because it is too close to my computer. Just looking at that hunk with the chocolate reduced them one more size. Loved the post...need to follow it, oh so badly.

  4. Amanda, that post cracked me up! I'm with you. I looooove chocolate. In fact I love all food....darn pants. LOL.

  5. Amanda, thanks for the morning chuckle! About an hour from my house sits a chocolate store. Whenever I'm in Naperville, I try to stop in and see what delights Le Chololat du Bouchard has in store. I'm not a big fan of dark chocolate, but I love theirs. It's not bitter at all. It's a good thing I live so far away. Yum.

  6. Personally, I love how long your holiday lasts, Amanda. :}

  7. Amanda, you have to keep in mind that chocolate comes from a bean, and is therefore a vegetable - and vegetables are good for you. Therefore, you should eat more chocolate. And more. And more!

  8. LOL! I thought my arse was spreading, but maybe my darn pants are shrinking, too. I've been pampering myself with too much chocolate, I suppose, and also need to pamper myself with a more healthy lifestyle. Sounds like hell.

Terry - thought I'd add a little eye candy too!! ;)

Carolyn - we need to band together against the evil fiend who is replacing our clothing with smaller versions. Writers of the world unite!!

  11. Sara - seriously it's the pants fault. I'm sure my beloved chocolate cannot be to blame!

Tracey - just the name of the store makes my mouth water!

Kathryne - You like how I strethched that out? Unfortunately it's not the only thing that stretched out...

  12. Joanne - I love you!! Yes indeed, I should eat more veggies (wink!)

Olivia - preaching to the choir sister!

Shana - You are doing a better job of it than me! I know if I just get going over time excercise will feel good (or so they say). It's just getting my tushy off the couch!

  13. It was great fun to read your post. Truth be told, I seem to put on weight during the winter but tend to decrease in size during the summer. I am convinced that part of it is that all of the seasonal fruits that I love hit the market and are so lusciously flavorful, not to mention vine ripened tomatoes, and all of the fresh herbs that I adore. I don't bar myself from good chocolate, but I do tend in the summer months to eat really flavorful meals so that I don't much miss the cream sauces. Think homemade pesto on a bit of pasta with marinated, grilled chicken breast, with roasted tomatoes, or a broth based noodle soup with thin slices of meat, crushed peanuts, poached egg, diced cucumber and lots of fresh coriander, basil, mint and a bit of scallions. Well, that is what I have come to crave in summer months....so looking forward to it. Ooh, and at the end of a meal have some sun warmed (or chilled if you prefer, I just love figs warm) fruit and a couple of squares of chocolate.

  14. Lil - oh my gosh your post is making me soooo hungry. It all sounds so good!!

  15. Good luck with that. I have been telling myself to do this since the first of the year but bad food just keeps jumping in my mouth and the exercise want listen to me. Bad weather, to cold or I just have other things that need doing besides exercise. Must do something soon though.

  16. Virginia - you have fattening food jump in your mouth too? I thought I was the only one! Why does the stuff that's so bad taste sooo good?!

  17. LOL, Amanda. I always know if something tastes wonderful it must be bad for me. :( I still find a way to each chocolate anyway. ~ Jodie

  18. Amanda - I'm sorry to be posting late, but I loved your post! Chocolate is one of my weaknesses and an indulgence, especially after coming to the same realization about the clothes in my closet magically shrinking!

I'm on week 10 of WW and missed the last 3 weigh-ins, fingers crossed I'm still on track. Life got in the way.

    Thanks for a wonderful, post!
