Launch + Giveaway: Miss Lavigne's Little White Lie

by Samantha Grace

Some people love cowboys. Others prefer soldiers or kilted warriors. I love sailors. There’s something very appealing about a man who braves the ocean, especially the all-powerful captain who holds everyone’s welfare in his hands.

I thought back to when my fascination with sailors began, and I’m a little embarrassed to admit it started when I was a kid with Popeye, the Sailor Man. It’s not like I thought he was cute or anything, but I loved the cartoon and I always routed for him to win Olive Oyl’s heart. Brutus was too growly and mean for me.

Later, Sinbad the Sailor became my obsession. I loved the Sinbad movies! The adventures were exotic and exciting, and Sinbad was cute.

Yet, it wasn’t until I read "Gentle Rogue" by Johanna Lindsey that I became completely hooked on sailors. Captain James Malory made me swoon! Years later, I still get all fluttery inside when I think of James. It was this book that made me fall in love with regency romance, too, and most of the story took place on a ship!

I must have carried a secret wish for my own romance at sea, because the love story between Lisette Lavigne and Captain Daniel Hillary was so satisfying to write. So far, MISS LAVIGNE’S LITTLE WHITE LIE has been the most exciting and energizing project I’ve taken on, and I hope readers will fall for Captain Daniel Hillary as hard as I did for James all those years ago. Now, if I could just write a story about an archer…

What type of hero do you find swoon-worthy? Firemen? Jet pilots? Spies?

To enter to win one of two copies of Miss Lavigne’s Little White Lie, all you have to do is answer my question or leave a comment. US and Canada only, and please leave an email address. We’ll choose the winner on Monday morning!

Move over, Popeye!

A SCOUNDREL DRIVES A HARD BARGAIN...

Spirited and determined to protect her young brother at any cost, Lisette Lavigne is desperate to flee New Orleans. There's only one ship sailing to England, though, and the rakish Captain Daniel Hillary will only allow Lisette's family aboard for a very steep price...

BUT A LADY ALWAYS GETS THE UPPER HAND...

Daniel prides himself on running a tight ship, and he knows a lady will be nothing but trouble on a long voyage. Yet he can't help but break his own ironclad rules when Lisette persuades him that being gentlemanly just this once is his wisest course of action...

  1. Sam, I love spies. They are so much fun. I mean with their secret life. You think they are a rotten scoundrel, but it's all the illusional. I also love rakes & scoundrel, because I love when they become the hero you want.

  2. Of course, I do love cowboys but oh, oh I like this title and the cover. And I do like "sea" historicals...there's just something about putting a couple on a ship with nothing around them but water that intrigues me. Congratulations on the release and here's raising a glass to it being a best seller! There are more on the way, right?

  4. I love a hero who works with his hands--carpenters, construction workers, etc. Bonus points if they work shirtless!

Congrats on the release. It looks awesome!

  5. Melody,
I love spies, too. Daniel Craig as James Bond is the best! And of course, a reformed scoundrel is always fun. Thanks for stopping by today. :)

  6. Carolyn,
Thank you! There is another book on the way in May 2013. I can only hope to be as prolific as you. You've set the bar pretty high, though. :)

  7. Thank you, Macy!
There's something totally hot about men who are good with their hands or walk across steel beams. They make great heroes for contemporary stories, IMO. :)

  8. Did y'all know they kept carpenters on ship to make repairs as needed?

  9. Congratulations on the release and gorgeous cover! Although I love cowboy heroes, I have plenty of room in my heart for men who work with their hands--whether he is a sailor in the King's Navy, pirate by choice, or privateer by loyalty :) Errol Flynn was my first ever movie star crush when I saw him in Captain Blood...I still sigh when I watch that movie.

  10. Hi

I love to read about all types of heros but do like those cowboys, pirates and law enforcers. I have to agree with you - I loved Gentle Rogue and all those Malory's from Johanna Lindsay, I should re-read them sometime.

Thanks for the chance and I am looking forward to reading your book.

  15. C.H.,
I never saw Captain Blood, but I just went to Youtube and watched a montage. Errol Flynn was a good looking man. No wonder you fell for him. :)

  16. Pam,

Those Malory men make me weak in the knees for sure. I think the only story I missed was the older brother's, and I didn't even realize he had a story until a few months ago.

I hope you enjoy Miss Lavigne's Little White Lie. :)

  19. Ella,
I'm with you on the men in uniform. There is something super sexy about camouflage to me. (Not the kind hunters wear) When I see a group of soldiers, I can't help ogling. LOL

  22. At the moment I'm on a Highlander kick but other than that no real favorites. I will take any profession as long as I care about the hero. Usually the alpha types - they're great to read about, not so great in real life lol.

    Congratulations on your release!

  26. Hi, Jen.
There is a lot of appeal to an average guy, but one thing I've noticed is that most people appear more attractive when I really get to know them. Well, if they are beautiful on the inside. The opposite can be true as well. An outwardly attractive person can become ugly if he is ugly on the inside.

  27. Lil,
I agree. A Navy SEAL is so sexy. They are just underwater sailors. ;D

  28. Thank you, Catslady.
Real life alphas aren't so great, but fictional ones make for a fun read. :)

  37. Congrats on your new release!

Men in uniform are appealing; after all, they did have to undergo testing and training before they earn their uniforms.

  38. I tend to like the alpha type men no matter what profession they have. But I do really enjoy a good pirate who will stop at nothing (even kidnapping) to get their heroine. And if they are on a ship, there is not much chance that they can avoid each other so there tends to be lots of tension & interaction
Congrats on the release....it looks great!

  39. Hi Samantha!

I love when a gentleman has a little bit of pirate in him! I want my genlteman to be swoom worthy of course but also to be ready to sail the seas and conquer his foes!

Of course being a gentleman pirate he would actully be working for the crown and not be exactly what he appears to be!

  41. I've always loved men in authority, such as the Captain of a ship, an aristocrat with a large estate that he takes pride in managing, a ranch owner, etc. and yes, spies because they risk it all and must be able to think fast to stay out of trouble.
