New Release: Anna Schmidt's The Drifter

It's release month for Anna Schmidt's western historical romance LAST CHANCE COWBOYS: THE DRIFTER! To celebrate, Anna's here to tell us 4 things that readers don't know about her AND her newest release:

1. When I was a kid my father ran a movie theater for a short time and even later as a family our entertainment of choice was always to “go to the movies.” Although I spent much of my life living in small (and I do mean small) towns, the movies took me to new places, introduced me to new ideas and social traditions, and gave me the crazy idea that it would be perfectly okay for me to burst into song and/or dance in the middle of the street.

2. My love of the past and drama continued when I got my college degree in history and then a masters in theater. I spent one summer in a theater workshop at the Circle in the Square Theater (then located in NYC’s Village and now part of Broadway) and got to explore every facet of theater from sets to lights to costumes to acting. It was an experience I never forgot and became the foundation for my lifelong love affair with New York City.

3. My love of westerns runs all the way back to my childhood when my sister and I would play cowboys in the backyard. There’s an exceedingly embarrassing photo of the two of us in full cowgirl regalia complete with fringed skirts, embroidered shirts, gun belts with holster and cap pistols.

4. When my Dad was coming to the end of his life and in frail health he read just about every book Louis L’Amour ever wrote. If I have a love of Westerns, it’s because it’s part of my DNA.

ABOUT THE DRIFTER:

1. Of all the western movie and TV show characters I have seen, Zorro was my favorite—maybe that’s why THE DRIFTER’S Chet carries a whip???

2. In pretty much every book I’ve ever written a character pops up that I am not expecting (or that I think of as a secondary character necessary only to advance the story at that point) and I fall in love with that character. In THE DRIFTER, that character is Dr. Addie Wilcox who gets her chance to tell her story in book two: THE LAWMAN.

3. One of my favorite scenes in THE DRIFTER is the one where Maria goes to the bank—she knows she has to play the game to get the loan she needs but she plays it so well that instead of being a victim, she emerges the winner and hopefully the reader cheers for her.

4. I have a reader for all my stories and for this series that reader is Melody Groves—she lives in Arizona and not only knows ranching, but also the historical and natural details that keep the story ‘real.’ THANK YOU, MELODY!!!
